Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
