'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from outside the box, and his teammate promptly hammered in the loose ball before racing off toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result sealed an extraordinary comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. In the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter shouting out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a upcoming fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and slow down a game. You can think you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has rapidly replicated that in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at lower division the Manchester club, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was likely a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including home and away games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the player from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, his father, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was sealed owing to temperatures of -15C. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I believed I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the guys but I'm hoping to be the following person to drive independently and behind the wheel. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would mix with supporters on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
